- Student visa
- Non-EU students apply for a study visa (type D) at the Italian consulate, then convert to a permesso di soggiorno per motivi di studio within 8 days of arrival. EU students only need a codice fiscale + local residency registration.
- Post-study work
- 12-month permesso per attesa occupazione — a one-time job-seeker permit after graduation. Full labour-market access during it; convert to a work permit once employed.
- Tuition
- Publics scale tuition by ISEE family income: €150–€4,000/yr typical (median ~€1,000). Non-EU applicants use the same ISEE bands as EU — no international premium at most publics. Bocconi + LUISS + Cattolica charge €13,000–€16,000 flat.
- Scholarships
- MAECI Italian Government Scholarships (~€900/mo for master's/PhD), regional DSU grants that combine rent + meals + tuition waiver (means-tested), plus Erasmus Mundus for EU joint programmes.
