Visa & life in France
The practical stuff — what's allowed, what's funded, what to expect after you graduate.
- Student visa
- Non-EU students apply for a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS) at Campus France; validate it online with OFII within 3 months of arrival (~€200 fee). EU students only need a CAF/CROUS registration — no visa.
- Post-study work
- Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour (APS): 12-month non-renewable post-study permit for master's + PhD graduates. Full work rights during it; convert to a Talent-Passeport upon qualifying employment.
- Tuition
- Public universities charge a national statutory fee: ~€243–250/yr for EU/EEA/Swiss + French residents, and ~€3,770/yr for non-EU at master's level (introduced 2019). Grandes Écoles + private schools charge €10,000–€30,000/yr.
- Scholarships
- Eiffel Excellence (MAEE — €1,181/mo for master's students from partner countries), France Excellence (Campus France — bilateral programmes), and Erasmus Mundus for EU joint programmes.
